Drilling the Well

Part I

Mr. McCall of McCall Well Drilling met us up at the property and in short order picked out a suitable site for Lesley's well. Over the next several days his big rigs were brought in and a two-man team drilled to a final depth of 640 ft until they found water with good free-flowing pressure. It free-flows at a rate of 5 gallons per minute, which is good water they say.

As soon as there is electricity at the site they will come back and put the submersible pump down the well and also put a more permanent cap on top of the well. They will also install a temporary faucet for construction use.

Patience is just one of the characteristics these well drillers must have...it is hard work, dirty work, pretty wet work most of the time, and the noise of the drilling is deafening. I know the trees were grateful when it ended.

The following images will give you an idea of what is involved in drilling for a mountain water source.
