Propane Tank

A 1,000 gallon underground propane tank is buried on the north side of the house. They hit rock (of course) while escavating so it couldn't be totally hidden from view. Even though the dome is visible, such a tank can easily be incorporated into most landscape designs.
Underground propane storage tanks are long-lasting, environmentally friendly, and require no maintenance...so out of sight is truly out of mind. With proper protection to resist rust and corrosion, they will generally last for 30 to 40 years. Propane meets the standards set by the federal Clean Air Act Amendments (CAAA) for reducing acid rain and controlling air pollution in urban areas. In fact, the CAAA heralds propane as one of the solutions leading to a cleaner, healthier environment. Since propane vaporizes rapidly, it won't contaminate soil or groundwater. Did you know that propane gas is cleaner burning than coal, heating oil or gasoline? |

 CAUTION: If surface drainage and the water table level are disregarded at the time of installation, the housing dome may become flooded. This could cause corrosion and even malfunction of the fittings, valves, pressure relief valves, gauging devices and regulators as well as corrosion of the container itself. Therefore proper drainage must be provided to eliminate accumulation of water. Foreign matter, dirt and even insects can also enter the housing dome, which can cause leakage or impairment of the valves and regulators. So caution must be exercised when selecting the location for an underground LP-gas system. Usually your LP-gas supplier will assist in the decision-making process. |

 Next, the tank is filled and readied for when the furnace needs to be started. This will be soon, as the house has to have electricity and heat before the hardwood flooring can be delivered and installed. |
