Pouring the Footers

Part II

All load-bearing points must have footers. Note the smaller squares of footers to the far right - which will eventually support deck posts. More of them are located behind the dirt piles at the tree line. Another load-bearing point is visible on the left.

Footers being poured...

The vertical rebar (visible behind Casey) sets the grade, which determines the amount of concrete that needs to be poured in a footer.

The step-stair arrangement footers keep from having to pour one tall, solid wall of concrete under load-bearing walls.

Another view of the step-stair arrangement of footers.

Pouring footers is definitely not a one-man show!

A larger view of the overall footer design for Lesley's house.

This big rock (also seen in the above photo) will remain right where it is...as it will lie under the garage floor anyway. Amazing!

This is the footer for a retaining wall on the east (or downhill) side of the house, hence the rebar in multiple strips. These strips extend, as well, to the footers for the main structure which is on the far side of the workers (above).

Shhhhhhh! Don't tell...
