Interior Painting
A Two-fold Process

Interior painting is a two-fold process: on the one hand, logs, beams, tongue & groove and other wood trim is lightly sanded and then painted with two coats of tough, durable, clear polyurethane wood finish.

On the other, paint is applied to primed drywall, also in two coats. Some walls even require three coats.

This is a tedius task in a log home. The ceilings are high and the walls seem to go on forever. Plus, painting and saw dust are arch enemies, so things have to be carefully coordinated when painting is going on.

We have gotten to know some of the painters pretty well, even their eccentricities. Janice doesn't eat sweets so she always looses out on those days when Lesley brings in a batch of triple chocolate brownies. Oh, well!

A word to the wise from Lesley: the colors in natural light never seem to be what comes out of those pricy gallon cans. In fact, there is hardly any correlation at all and – guess what – you can't return custom colors. We ended up sticking to the earth tones and avoiding the yellows and greens in particular, even the lighter hues. They are just too difficult to work with.

BUT – it all works out in the end.

And it is never dull watching the process unfold!

Zooooooooom....
