The ELECTRICIAN pulled one over on us in this case. Oh, he didn't do it deliberately, maybe but he did it nevertheless!
Lesley has been adamant that nothing be secured to the exterior log walls. Then suddenly the electric meter popped up on the west wall facing the driveway, right there on the logs. Yikes! This happened because the electrician works at odd hours and often even on weekends to get the job done as critical systems are being installed. So while one or both of us are at the property 6-7 hours a day, Monday through Friday, and often on weekends as well, we can't be there ALL THE TIME. Which, of course, is when S*** happens. After much discussion with Wayne, our site manager, and the electrician, the code required that the meter be five feet above ground AND not below a window. You can see (below) where Dustin decided to put it...right there in front of God and everybody, big as day, and ugly gray, and firmly bolted to the exterior log wall.
The meter could have been put on the cement garage wall, as you can see in the following photo. However, because the propane line had already been installed in that short space of wall to the right of the garage opening, it would have meant moving the propane line elsewhere. That would have consumed considerable time and effort as well as set us back on our construction schedule. Soooooo...a decision was reached by all to leave the danged meter in place. It was really a problem of timing. The electrician made a command decision to place the meter on that log wall when we were not there to negotiate with him.
It does make us think that we should roll in a couple of sleeping bags to prevent these kinds of things from happening in the future. However, Dr. Ellen says she is not really into freezing her bippy in the 30 degree nights up here at the property so that idea was scratched. But let this serve as a cautionary note for other homeowners:
