Logs, Logs, and More Logs!

By now all of the logs have arrived from the Barna factory in Oneida, TN and are stacked ten-deep on the property, wherever space can be found.

The arrival of logs is always a very exciting time, as these photos show. These logs today are the final logs to be delivered to the property.

Lesley meets Choice Transport up on the Foothills Parkway in a heavy fog. From here it is exactly one mile to the gate at Avens Lane.

Lesley and Dr. Ellen follow the semi-trailers from the Parkway down to Avens Lane in Lesley's Volvo. This road, by the way, is steep and winding...like all good mountain roads tend to be!

Bill Gray waits in his CAT near the gate at Avens Lane for the Choice Transport trucks to arrive. Bill will off-load the logs to smaller vehicles that can navigate through the Chestnut Tops gate.

And the offloading process starts!

A loaded truck on a tight turning angle approaches the gate...will it make it?

It does! But not with much room to spare on either side!

The off-loading process takes time, some of just in finding places in the woods to stack the log pallets! But Bill is an expert at this, having built 100 Barna log homes to date in his stellar career...WOW!

Lesley's job at delivery time is to make sure that she has a confirmed copy of everything that is delivered by Choice Transport from the Barna Factory.

Todd Ryon of Choice Transport and Lesley compare notes for this final delivery.

But it's not an altogether easy process trying to decipher the packaging notes on the log pallets, as Choice Ryon can attest to. But all is well!

After the off-loading is complete, Bill lets Dr. Ellen drive the CAT back down to the house - FUN!

She made it down the drive in good shape, as Bill knew she would. Yaaaaaaa! No wonder little boys like trucks, muses Dr. Ellen...she thinks they are pretty cool, too!

These are metal I-Beams for the garage ceiling.

And these are highly compressed and stitched wooden beams for the first floor living space...they are heavy buggers!

Note the 12 compressed layers on the heaviest beam. The stitching process used in making these beams makes them much stronger than single lengths of logs.

Ryon and Choice of Choice Transport sign off on the last log delivery...promising to come to Lesley's open house after the construction process is complete. They are already regular visitors to Dr. Ellen's LOG BLOG.

Lesley watches Choice Transport leave and sighs a sigh of relief...it is all starting to come together at last! she says.
