| Today was both exhausting and exhilarating! The house was swarming with subs of every description and the work progressed beautifully.
Dr. Ellen's special Minnesota snow jig also worked no snow except at the higher elevations and, while cold, the weather predictions look pretty good. During this particular jig she mixed in some Eric Clapton and she thinks that probably did it... Take a look - Dr. Ellen's tiles were finally installed in the kitchen today. Rick from Gillenwater Flooring did a fantastic job. Just remember that the tiles haven't been grouted yet. The grout will be green like the background tile, not white like you see below, so as not to detract from the photo tiles. We used green 2-inch tiles as the backdrop, then we took 8x8-inch sections out and replaced them with the 8x8-inch photo tiles. Unsanded grout is used here to protect the tiles. This was quite a day as you will see! |

![]() A view of the splashback around the gas stove top. A hood will be installed shortly above the stove. 17 photo tiles were used in all, each tile 8x8 inches, separated by 2 inch strips of tile. |
![]() They are making progress on the tiles in all bathrooms now, too. Forget tile if you are in a hurry, though. Also, this job is a bear to clean up after, and tilers are not prone to do too much of that themselves. |
![]() The stairs are beautiful. They worked on them all today, and plan to be here on Saturday and Sunday as well. Once installed, then they have to be sanded between three coats of finish. Everyone else will have to resort to climbing ladders again, as the stairs will be off-limits for a time. |
![]() Some finishing carpentry will follow... |
![]() The installation of the quartz countertops was fun to watch. Here they are drilling holes for the plumbing fixtures at the sink. That kitchen sink, by the way, is a beaut! |

The electricians put many of the ceiling fans and track lights in today, with more installations to follow on Saturday and Sunday. They have an urgent deadline now to pass the electrical inspection next Wednesday. |
![]() Can you image putting theses fans up? |

![]() There are ten things going on at once at the moment...and all of it VERY HIGH UP! |
![]() The garage has cycled through all kinds of uses in the course of construction. Yesterday this bay held tons of tall boxes. Today it is a lumber yard... |
![]() ...and workshop! At least there are lights now! Hurrah! |
![]() There were even drywall repairs going on today! It seems that the ADT folks came in and accidently cut a wire for the central vac system. The error was tracked and found just in the nick of time. |
![]() The disarray is only superficial...4 or 5 subcontractors are all using the same space! And they all seem have a handle on their little corner of the mess. |
![]() A closeup of the black door fixtures that are being installed throughout the house. The shipment of custom hardware finally arrived! |
![]() Custom bookshelves now adorn various nooks and crannies on the second and third floors. |
![]() Lesley and Wayne check on a second shipment of plumbing fixtures...you must check and double-check because (in this case) one pedestal sink did not arrive. And time is of the essence! Grumble grumble... |
![]() Outside outlets are also being installed now. That's Dr. Ellen with a winter hat on, having fun with her shadow... |
![]() And here is Lesley putting a little polyurathane on a missed spot near the staircase. |
![]() ...on several missed spots, Dr. Ellen guesses... |
![]() Opps, the cabinet installers yesterday buried an electrical plug behind a pantry cabinet. So Wayne and Lesley had to get down on their hands and knees to problem-solve. The portable light was necessary because the house is not fully 'hot' yet! |
![]() "OK, it's your turn, Wayne." Lesley says as she crawls out from under the cabinet. They finally figured out a solution so that a compactor could be plugged into the spot that Lesley currently occupies. ALL IN A DAY'S WORK FOR MS. HOMEOWNER! |
![]() Oh, and the log railing guys also stopped by today to measure - they have to get these railings installed ASAP...they are a requirement to pass the CO (certificate of occupancy). They will be back on Monday to do the job in its entirety...all three flights of stairs and the loft railings...a big job they say they can do, no problem. |
![]() Things are looking good on the outside, too, eh? |
![]() As if it weren't busy enough already, the appliance installer came today, too. He arrived mid-afternoon and worked until well after dark. |
![]() It took some doing for him to install the hood. As the hours ticked away, Lesley's and Dr. Ellen's feet ached to be relieved of all that standing. |
![]() Dr. Ellen shows a view of him from the deck. Cool view, huh? We actually got to go home after the hood was installed. He comes back again on Monday to finish up and make sure everything works...meanwhile, these two homeowners are pretty finished up, too. |
