Location of Garage-level I-Beams

To give you an idea of what is involved in a log structure this size, there are two weight-bearing points that run down the center of the ground level garage from the center garage bay to the front door. These two points alone bear weight of over 100,000 lbs.

I-Beams are therefore strategically placed throughout the ground level garage. The following photos illustrate where they are located. Having the house supported by steel I- Beams with fewer posts gives more space in the garage. Laminated wood beams supporting the main load can warp or split which is a costly repair as well as it cause damage to the entire structure. Steel I-Beams will never do that with proper engineering.

I-Beams add support to the stairwell (in the framed area).

The temporary 6x6 supporting the ceiling was replaced with an I-Beam shortly after this construction photo was taken.
