Wade Richardson of Sage Mountain Gallery in Townsend, TN has designed a massive pine door for our front foyer.
The door is 8 feet tall and 42 inches wide, and will be stained to contrast with the character of the notty pine logs that surround it. |
![]() Lesley and Wade confer at his studio about the choice of stain for the door, which is right now in the process of being built (below). She brought in a section of stained log from the house to compare with his suggested stains. |

![]() The arched design at the top of the door closely matches the design of all interior house doors. |
![]() The front door opens into a ground floor foyer, which also houses the elevator and stairs to the upper floors. Brandon and Lesley decide that the space above the door will be filled with glass blocks to serve as a source of ambient light. Cool idea, huh? Security interests preclude any accessible windows in the foyer. |
![]() Wade finally arrives with the front door which first has to have its edges shaved for a perfect fit. |
![]() And then it is hung. |

![]() Note the height of the door in relationship to the guys. Danny Traver, Lesley's long-time Florida contractor, insisted that she get a massive door for this space, and she is glad she did. Thanks, Danny! Wade will come back to put some stain on the top and bottom of the door to seal it. Then a final coat of polyeurathane will be added for protection, over the existing two coats. |
![]() The question now is where on the door to insert a large peep hole. Wade thinks it should be placed HIGH on the door so that people will think that somebody big lives here :-) Craig's beautiful stonework with enclose the door on three sides. |
