Installation of the Lev Home Elevator

This is the Lev Home Elevator by ThyssenKrupp Access. It was selected because it has the ability to travel 50 feet and make up to five stops. In this house it will make three stops.

The counterweighted chain drive system makes it one of their most energy-efficient models, and it has more lifting power (950 pounds) than any other elevator in its class. Also, it has automatic battery powered lowering during household power failure as well as a telephone.

The interior of the elevator shaft was first insulated against noise, and then fully encased in drywall. Our finishing carpenters also embedded a 50 ft wooden track into the shaft to accomodate the elevator equipment which was installed by certified technitions.

A view down from the second floor.

This long view shows the elevator in relation to the stairs going up to the third floor. It also shows the insulation around the shaft.

The equipment is double-checked and the access buttons are installed, along with telephone cable to the phone.

A pine door and tongue and grove paneling disguise the elevator, making it look very much like a closet on each of three floors.

Well, the access buttons might be a tip-off...
