Deck Foundations

Decking is an important part of any log home. They bring nature right to your door.

The deck on the mountain (or downhill) side of the house will be 52 ft long by 12 ft wide. Additional decking extends around to the right of the dining room. There will definitely be plenty of room to relax and gaze at the mountains, and to string up bird feeders.

Not so bad, huh?

The cement pillars for the decking are visible across the mountain side of the house, and around the south corner of the dining room.

A close-up of the pillars that will allow the decking to extend around the south side of the dining room.

The concrete pillars go from the ground up to 12 ft - beyond that point additional 10 ft posts will be added to support the decking itself.

For added strength, the concrete pillars are poured with concrete. And the blocks are used at this level to prevent moisture damage to otherwise wooden deck supports.
