August 27th Update

This is how things look on August 27th. It is definitely still a work in progress but interior rooms [are] starting to take shape. And a certain ambience is starting to take hold. Still, this is only the second floor, with a third to come!

Ain't progress grand?

This is a long view from the dining room looking back towards the kitchen and first floor bedrooms behind the kitchen. The beams above will eventually form the floor of the still to come 3rd level.

Details

This is a long view looking towards the living room from the kitchen and pantry area, with the great wall of windows on the left and the large windows of the dining room to their right. The window to the far right is one of several which grace the 3-story stairwell.

This is a view of the first floor bedrooms which are embraced at either end by Bay windows and meet in the middle with bathrooms and walk-in closets.

These great windows will rise two stories, and will eventually look out over the Smokies and Clingman's Dome.

Dr. Ellen is standing in the corner of the dining room to get this shot, which looks back towards an open kitchen and beyond.

Once rooms start taking shape, it is frequently necessary to go back to the drawing board to RE-think things. Will that really work? Is this space too small? Can that closet possibly be extended a foot? The trick is, you need to make those kinds of changes BEFORE the drying in is complete!

The courses of logs are rising, to be sure!

Dr. Ellen, however, still bemoans the ladder access to that second floor! There doesn't seem to be any way around it...YET!
